The Mercedes-Benz VISION EQS
Mercedes-Benz initially introduced the S-Class sedan in 1972. At the time, the S-Class was setting standards with innovative new safety features and was the first production passenger car with a turbo-diesel engine. We all know the S-Class model line has continued the theme of being on the cutting edge of technology and setting new industry trends. However, Mercedes-Benz just took the S-Class to an entirely new height with the release of the VISION EQS – the first fully electric sedan from Mercedes-Benz. The VISION EQS was unveiled recently at the Frankfurt Auto Show and it has everyone stirring with excitement and anticipation. So what exactly do we know about this futuristic looking concept vehicle?
Discover the VISION EQS
The VISION EQS is representative of the future of Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz launched a new initiative that all of their vehicles and production facilities would be carbon-neutral by 2039. This means all of their vehicles in thir lineup will be electric or fuel cell powered. Granted, the EQS is just a concept vehicle at this time, but with the EQC electric SUV going into production, there is a good chance this could be the next electric vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz EQ line.
The design of the EQS is truly one-of-a-kind both inside and out. The exterior styling and “one bow” design looks futuristic. The flawless body lines and subtle contouring of this car are simply out-of-this-world. Seamless door handles, digital side view mirrors, black-panel LED matrix grille and the LED headlamps are just a few exterior features that make the EQS unlike any other vehicle. Not to mention its 24-inch, matte silver, multi-spoke wheels to add an upscale character to this masterpiece.
The interior of the EQS is unlike any luxury vehicle on the market. The seats are made with sustainable microfiber materials that are accentuated by a contrasting diamond pattern and rose gold colored trim throughout the cabin. The infotainment and control center is a generous sized touchscreen that is perfectly placed in front of the center console. There are two additional side displays on the driver and front passenger seats to allow individualization of the driving experience by entering the Mercedes me ID. The EQS has a “Connected Light” system, which runs around the entire interior setting ambient LED lighting and aiding communication with the passengers. Driving the EQS is truly an immersive experience.
Sports-Inspired Performance and Technology
The VISION EQS has two electric motors that make a combined 350 kW which is equal to 469 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque. The EQS is supposed to be able to do 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. The range of the EQS is approximately 430 miles on a single charge, which is more than most electric vehicles on the market today. If you charge the EQS on a fast-charge 350-kW outlet, you can charge from zero to 80 kWh in less than 20 minutes, which again is pretty impressive comparatively.
The EQS structure is based on an intelligent multi-material mix of steel, aluminum and carbon fiber, plus sustainable materials made from recyclables. On top of all of this, the EQS is partially autonomous, as it is equipped with Level 3 autonomy or “Conditional” autonomy. Essentially this means the vehicle can navigate most driving situations and needs driver intervention when the autonomous driving system encounters something it cannot navigation.
When Will the EQS Arrive
At this time, the EQS is a concept vehicle so there is no timetable for its official release, if it even meets production.
