The All-New 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB 250
Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled a new off-road-oriented SUV in June– the all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB. The new GLB is actually quite versatile, coming in off-road oriented trim or luxury trim levels. The GLB can function as a spacious family SUV or a capable over-lander for the more adventurous customers. The all-new 2020 GLB to go on sale in the US and arrive here at Mercedes-Benz of Caldwell by the end of the year! The official GLB premiere was in June, but what do we already know about it after its premiere?
The Versatility of the GLB
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is now the eighth vehicle in the “global compact car” family from Mercedes-Benz. Now, even though the GLB is classified as a compact SUV, its proportions and capability are not compact at all. The GLB’s wheelbase is more than 5-inches longer than the GLA and only a couple of inches shorter than the GLC. The GLB will come in five-passenger model, and for the first time in a compact Mercedes-Benz, a seven-passenger, third-row model. The proportions of the GLB underscore its off-road design styling. The GLB has short front and rear overhangs, muscular body lines, and all-around protective lower cladding.
The interior of the GLB can also be configured with rugged or luxury design styling. Interior accents including nubuck leather and milled aluminum trim create a different look and feel. The instrument panel and center console have sharper angles and bolder lines. The instrument panel is configured in a single piece that stretches from the cockpit into the center of the dash. The large, aluminum trimmed air vents and the straight lines in the dash create a bolder look. The GLB will also come with Mercedes-Benz User Experience, which is an intuitively operated infotainment system that comes with a full-color heads up display, navigation, and it can be controlled with voice commands that are activated by saying “Hey Mercedes”.
Off-Road Engineering, Luxury Comfort
The new 2020 GLB is an interesting combination of a rugged, luxury, compact SUV with off-road capability and high-tech driver assists all in one package. The GLB comes with a completely updated 2.0L inline-4 turbocharged engine that makes 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission so fuel economy is maximized without sacrificing power or capability.
The GLB 250 4MATIC® comes standard with an Off-Road Engineering Package, which includes an animation of the driving situation displayed on the media display, hill-start assist, and downhill speed regulation. In the 4MATIC® model of the GLB, all-wheel drive is permanent and it comes with three driving modes –Sport, Eco/Comfort, and Off-Road. High performance LED headlamps and fog lamps are available options on the GLB, which can be adjusted electronically.
